Mawave Diversity & Inclusion Program
Strengthening diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion: Mawave intensifies its commitment to diversity in the social media industry

Munich, January 13, 2025
- As more and more major US companies like McDonald's, Meta, and Ford scale back their diversity initiatives in favor of political expediency, Mawave is stepping up its own diversity program.
- The agency is intensifying its efforts and launching the Social Media Diversity Circle to further embed diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion within the company and raise awareness across the industry.
- Julia Leuschner is taking the lead of this diverse and interdisciplinary team to drive diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion both internally and externally.
- Jason Modemann, CEO of Mawave, emphasizes the responsibility of the agency and other marketing stakeholders to advocate for fair and respectful interaction in order to counter social regression.
Many US companies feel compelled to withdraw from their Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) programs for fear of political backlash in a climate where the new US President, Donald Trump, frames equality and diversity as enemies. Mawave is taking a deliberate stand against this trend, committing itself to a fair, respectful, and inclusive society—and calling on the entire industry to follow suit.
Difference makes the difference
As a leading agency for social media outcomes in Europe, Mawave’s goal is to translate established consumer brands into social media and support them with creativity and innovation to reach their target audiences. We believe that the best outcomes are achieved when people with diverse experiences and backgrounds work together. With our DEI initiative, diversity, equal opportunity, and accessibility in the workplace will become even more of a daily reality than they already are. Every colleague should feel seen and heard, knowing they belong and can fully realize their potential at Mawave.
But the agency is not just intensifying its own commitment to diversity and inclusion. Mawave is also calling on other players in the social media industry to engage more deeply with the topic, which is why we are launching the Social Media Diversity Circle.
Jason Modemann, CEO of Mawave: “As social media experts, we have a special responsibility to raise our voices for a fair, respectful, and inclusive society. It is our duty to champion diversity initiatives both internally and externally and to work together to counter social regression. With our initiative, we want to create mutual inspiration and support—for more perspectives, inclusion, equal opportunity, and a nuanced discourse.”
Our commitment to equal opportunity
Dedicated DEI committee
Mawave is actively committed to a corporate culture where all employees can reach their full potential and practice inclusive interaction. The initiative responsible for this consists of diversity experts and representatives from underrepresented groups. Together with Julia Leuschner, the primary contact for diversity management, and former Meta executive Oliver Busch, who is part of Mawave’s management team, they will promote these guiding principles. The DEI Advisory Board focuses on creating an inclusive work environment, ensuring equal opportunity and inclusion in hiring and communication, identifying areas for improvement at Mawave, developing actionable steps, and maintaining a continuous dialogue with those affected to improve the program.
Training and workshops for greater awareness
Every day, we make decisions that affect Mawave as a company, our teammates, our clients, and our stakeholders. In other words, what we do matters—and so does our judgment. Our goal is to ensure that all Mawave employees and managers have the support, cultural awareness, and understanding they need to successfully build and maintain diverse and inclusive teams. That is why we use training, workshops, and regular meetups to develop shared codes of conduct and the fundamental legal frameworks that help us make the right decisions, as well as a vision that outlines who we are and how we work.
New Social Media Diversity Circle
Social media is only as good or as bad as the people and brands that use it—as communication and social media experts, we have a special responsibility to use our work to make a conscious and targeted positive contribution.
The Social Media Diversity Circle, organized as a regular meetup, is designed to do exactly that: create a platform that brings people together—both digitally and in person—to exchange best practices and ambitions. The goal is not only to strengthen awareness of diversity and equal opportunity but also to uncover potential synergies and jointly generate momentum for an inclusive and fair society.
The first kick-off meeting will take place online on January 22. Those interested can contact Julia Leuschner directly for more information and to register.
